NO PLACE IS MORE LOCAL THAN YOUR OWN BACK YARD!”

And, in our “backyard” is Merry Garden Estates: Seniors there, and in other similar living situations, don’t qualify for the subsidy the federal government provides (Senior Share) that allows seniors living at home to purchase produce at local farmer’s markets free of cost.  So, we at the Garden Institute are stepping up to fill that void with “Senior Fare”, our effort to provide the freshest produce to our neighbors who also deserve healthy locally-grown food!

The Garden Institute has six large raised beds in our new “Sam Collins Memorial Garden” (Sam’s Gardens), a gift from Sam's family.  Their wish is that this garden be dedicated to raising produce in support of  “Senior Fare”.   In order to make this project a reality, we need your help:

  • We need hoops and covers to be able to take advantage of a longer growing season
  • We need compost to fill the boxes and soil amendments to balance the fill  (We would love to have a soil testing kit as well!)
  • And, among other things, we need money to cover our other expenses like water and insurance.

Anything you can give to help us make this happen is very much appreciated.

 Thank You!
